Metal Embossed Tea Light Holder

My Daughter asked me to emboss something for a project she is putting together for school. I told her to take a look at my metal embossing board on Pinterest to get some ideas as to what she was looking for. She chose a tea light holder.

I asked Mr. Hobby to cut a few boards, route the edges and cut recess holes for the tea lights to sit in. Took him all of a few minutes to grant my request. Mr. Hobby can be very awesome like that.

Here is what I started with:

I spent about an hour embossing 3 designs and cutting them out. I filled the back of each one with some Elmer’s glue to help hold the shape of the designs.  For more information on how to emboss – check out my 4 part series on Embossing Basics found on the menu bar of my home page under Metal Embossing How To.

I decided I would finish each wood piece differently so that my daughter would have a variety to choose from. Here is what I ended up with:

Black Spray Paint

Pecan Stain

Mahogany Stain

I chose to mix up the designs that I made on the tea light holders and I glued them down with E6000 glue.  I will finish these off with felt circles on the bottom of the wood and they will be ready to go.

I had fun doing this project and was thinking what nice, easy and inexpensive gifts these would make!  Happy Crafting!

Hi Laurie. You are so talented. Your tea light holder is gorgeous. I remember doing a bit of embossing way back in high school. None of us made anything near as nice as yours.

Those are really impressive! I've never tried embossing, so it's good to hear you say it's easier than it looks. It's also good to have a Mr. Hobby who can knock out a tea light holder in just a few minutes, too! 😉
