A Doctor In The House

Daughter #1 and her husband

To say I am proud of this girl is an understatement.   Last week, my #1 daughter earned her PhD in biochemistry.

Graduation Day with her lab group and Mentor

After nearly six years of research, experiments both successful and unsuccessful, mountains of data, long, long hours, paper writing, dissertation compiling and an incredibly strong determination to finish, my daughter successfully presented her dissertation defense to a large crowd of mentors, colleagues and family with an hour-long power point, summarizing her work.

After the presentation, we had to leave the room while she stayed behind to field questions from her mentors. Then, after a short deliberation, the mentors came out to congratulate her.

It was an awesome moment and my husband and I were so happy that we could be there to witness it.

She still has about a month worth of wrap up work before she walks out of the lab for the last time, but the long stressful hours are finally over!

Congratulations Dr. Amanda!  We love you and couldn’t be more proud!
