How many of you vacationed at the beach this year?  Did you or your kids bring home shells?  Probably more than you know what to do with?   I suspect this is a pretty common occurrence especially when you don’t live close to the beach.   Today I’m sharing an idea for an easy Sea Shell Keepsake to use up some of those shells.

I brought home a bag of shells from my beach vacation to Gulf Shores earlier this year.  It had been 13 years since the last time I set foot on a beach, so I was a more than a little over due for some sea shells.

Instructions to Make Your Own Sea Shell Keepsake:

For the base I used a left over clothes pin star that I had made last year at Christmas.

I spray painted the star with a gloss white and allowed to dry.

I used a piece of red baker’s twine and looped it through one of the holes for a hanger.  Do this before you start gluing on shells.  While you are at it, take a minute to write the place and date where the shells were collected on the back of the star with a sharpie.

I used a hot glue gun to attach the shells.  If you are doing this with the kids, be sure to supervise or do this part yourself.  Maybe let them select their favorite shells to attach while you handle the glue gun.

This makes a cute keepsake to hang in their room and enjoy.

This is really cute. I will usually put them in large glass cylinders and display them on my mantle. Love the star Idea.

How cute, Laurie! This is a fun way to display those collected shells. I always have a small tree at Christmas that I decorate with coastal items. I'm going to make a few of these for that tree. Thanks for the inspiration! Sharing!
