One of the easiest type of Christmas Tree decorations to make are decorative Paper Cone Christmas Trees. If you have a few minutes, a few sheets of beautiful paper, you can make these trees! Nothing dresses up your gorgeous cone trees like finding a spectacular base to set them on. It can take your trees from ordinary to exquisite in an instant!
The most typical type of base I have seen used for these types of trees are candle holders. Unfortunately, I don’t have any decorative candle sticks or candle holder bases that would work for my trees, so, I pulled out an old wine glass and then raided my china cabinet to see what I could come up with.
The old wine glass spray painted in a metallic gold, made a wonderful base for my gold tree and gave it some needed height as well.
What type of decorative dishes do you have? Beautiful crystal or ceramic pieces could also work well. Glassware, vases and candy/nut bowls could make an excellent base. Maybe a small jewelry box, decorative soap container or even a mason jar. Look around your home and see what you might already have that would make a great base. Then if you want, decorate it, paint it, fill it or use it how it is.
Once you have found your base, you need to make sure that the tree cone will sit nicely on it. To put a cone over a glass or taller cylinder object is usually enough to hold the cone in place. But what about a shorter base like my gorgeous little silver bowls?
In order to get my paper cones to sit nicely on my upturned silver bowls, I used bamboo skewers and a square of foam typically used for floral arrangements.
I used a standard steak knife to cut off a piece of the foam to a size that would sit on the base of my bowls.
The bamboo skewer is inserted in the middle of the foam.
I needed to be able to attach the cone to the skewer, so I took a small plastic Christmas ball ornament and cut the tip with a pair of scissors.
Using my hot glue gun, I inserted the bamboo skewer and hot glued it to the ornament.
Using the decorative paper, I made a cone and glued the ornament to the top, and then inserted the skewer back into the foam. I did use a small amount of hot glue on the base of my bowl to hold the foam in place. The hot glue comes off easily, but if you are worried about doing this, attach the foam to the base with floral tape or painters tape.
These trees will be a beautiful addition to my holiday decorations this year. Happy Holidays!
